The coffees

Two single origins, nothing to dilute them.

Both coffees are Grade 1 Ethiopian arabica, representing the two most recognized growing regions in the country. They are roasted to the same standard in our Addis Ababa factory, and the result is two clearly different cups.

Why it matters

Most producers use commercial-grade beans. We use Grade 1.

Grade 1 is the top of Ethiopia's grading scale: hand-sorted, uniform in size, and holding its aroma and flavour where lower grades fall apart. After the bean, it's the roast that decides. We control heat and timing in our own Addis Ababa factory, and that's the difference between a good bean and a great cup.

Questions we get

What to know before you buy.

What are Yirgacheffe and Sidamo?

They are two of Ethiopia's most well-known coffee-growing regions. We make our capsules from Grade 1 beans of each, not commercial or commodity grade.

Are they both arabica?

Yes, both are 100% arabica. The name is a species label, not a place, and it is a trade-era mistake. Coffee is native to Ethiopia. Yirgacheffe and Sidamo both grow on highland Ethiopian farms, and both are arabica in the species sense. The word itself came from the Arab traders who carried the beans out of the region in the 15th and 16th centuries, and it stuck to the species even though the beans were never from Arabia. When you see "arabica" on the label, read it as the species name, not a claim about where the beans grew.

How are the two coffees different?

A trained palate will pick them apart quickly. Yirgacheffe is the bright one, floral and clean with a tea-like finish. Sidamo is the heavy one, with stone fruit and a full body. Where people do agree is that both taste excellent. Both are Grade 1 beans from Ethiopian highland farms, and neither one needs a label to make that case.

Are they available year-round?

Yes, we keep stock on hand. Occasionally demand outpaces supply for a short while, but restocking happens within weeks. Lead times depend on order size, so tell us your volume and we will confirm.
